Youth News

It has been another great season for the Swanage Youth cricket with our numbers passing the 100 mark for the first time. We were able to run our first ever girls team to add to the 7 sides from U8s to U15s. There was great success throughout the age groups from older juniors making the transition to adult cricket to the U8s playing in their first ever matches. Some brilliant individual performances along with with real team efforts meant everyone had a part to play. The U9s won their league for the second year running whilst the U8s have reached the Plate Final which sadly due to the weather will be played at the beginning of next season.

After beating Parley by 25 runs the U8s haven gone from strength to strength winning 3 matches to put them midway in the table and in the plate semi finals. A comprehensive win against Poole, where they scored an impressive 334 lifted them to 4th in the table. Our other top division side the U10s have continued to improve in all aspects of the game getting better by the week. Their highlight came when beating Parley earlier in the season and they nearly did it again last week losing narrowly to Winton by 8 runs.

The U11 Girls had another great game against Winton but sadly despite our best efforts we haven't been able to arrange any other games.

The U11s have suffered from a lack of games but have still managed to show a marked improvement through the season. They ended fourth in the table after a defeat to Ferndown at home. The U12s are second in the table and travel to Verwood in a play off for top spot.

The U13s finished with a dramatic 3 run win against Winton whilst the U15s completed their fixtures with another cancellation against Ferndown on Tuesday

The local inter schools competition is now in its third year and was once again keenly contested with a series of close matches. With Swanage players in all the school teams their was a mix of rivalry and friendship throughout the day. Early wins by St Mary's and St Mark's showed the way for the rest of the competition as they both reached the final. St Mary's turned the tables after defeat in the earlier game to win the final, as India and Barney shone both hitting a couple of 6's as St Mary's scored the highest score of the day with 290 for 0 wickets. It proved too much for St Mark's as they lost wickets trying to get such a big total. The most dramatic game was over on the other pitch as Swanage Primary posted an impressive 271 - 2 against St George's. A dramatic last over saw St George's fall agonisingly short as they scored 269 - 1. A great day all round with medals for all but the trophy for St Mary's.

A Y5 side from St Mary's did the Purbeck area proud coming 3rd out of 11 teams in a competition for the whole county. Their Girl's team came 7th.

Fund Raising

The kitchen has been buzzing at the youth matches already this season. A couple of Saturday kitchens - thanks to Stuart, Louise, Candice and the 2 Sharon's for doing those. A couple of weeks ago saw our first ever Sunday kitchen run by Simon and Nicky We've also had a few Friday evening games thanks to Michelle, Ade, Jackie and Anna for organising those. It all helps to create a great feeling around the matches and makes Swanage a fixture they all want to play. So far the efforts of the kitchen have paid for the already much loved Zinger stumps and bails as well as lots of new Kwik Cricket bats for the recently started U6s and U7s.

The youth section has already had a great boost thanks to Geoff and Tracy for another brilliant quiz night at the White Horse which raised an amazing £918. We also managed a new set of stumps and a bat from the raffle. The money will in part be used to subsidise Swanage training tops.

A spiritualist evening organised by Michelle raised £60 - thanks to Michelle for organising it.

Once again the Youth Section has been supported by so many people and companies.
