Also on Saturday, the 2ndXI recorded a sensational victory over the Champions' Cattistock at Days Park in Division 4. The visitors batted first and made a formidable 242-6 from their 40 overs despite some excellent bowling by the hosts from Ron Barker, Ed Cross, Simon Goldsack - who took a hat-trick and Harry Long.
In reply, Swanage recovered from the loss of 2 early wickets with an exceptional century partnership between Mike Wells and Simon Goldsack. When Simon fell for an enterprising 51, Wells was joined by his brother David who smashed an unbeaten run-a-ball 44. Fittingly, just after hitting his 16th boundary Wells struck the winning runs to remain unbeaten on 87 to record a remarkable win for the hosts to finish their season in a very respectable 5th position.

The innings was rescued by a brilliant, run-a-ball, 112-run partnership between the in-form Mike Nash and Mark Stacey. The partnership was broken just after Stacey had struck his 12th boundary for a sublime 77. Nash was then joined by Salmon - together they added 55 off just 40 balls before Nash was brilliantly caught for a majestic 61 - which included 9 boundaries. This is when Salmon when into overdrive -smashing 19 boundaries all together - which included 8 'huge' sixes and left the Club needing to get a replacement window! He remained undefeated on 124 from just 58 balls and enabled Swanage to post an incredible 305-6 from their 40 overs.
In reply, Puddletown were soon under pressure against some fantastic seam bowling by Mike Hernandez and Ryan Stearn. They were backed-up brilliantly by Swanage's leg-spin 'twins' Steve Kent and Sid Nash. Then, when the 'heaven's-opened' for a final time Puddletown were just 88-1 off 24 overs to complete a spectacular, memorable victory for the hosts.
Also on Saturday, the 2ndXI travelled to a Portland. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a solid start through Mike Wells who made 28. The momentum increased through a brilliant half-century partnership between 2 of Swanage's young 'stars' Freddie Long and Tom Wells - together they added 62 runs off just 50 balls until Long was dismissed for a fluent 32. Wells was, then, joined by Ed Cross - together they added 97 runs before Cross was dismissed for an excellent 34. Shortly after, Wells was finally dismissed for an exquisite 72 which included 10 boundaries.
In reply, the hosts got off to a solid start, despite the best efforts of Harry Long and Steve Ramsay. The pressure was maintained on the hosts by Swanage's spin 'twins' Pete & Ron Barker. With wickets continuing to fall regularly the hosts were finally restricted to 172-6 to compete a convincing win.
The 1stXI travelled to Compton House in their latest Division One encounter. Swanage got off to a solid start through Mike Nash & Simon Goldsack who scored 27 and 21 respectively. The momentum of the innings was maintained by Craig Wells - who smashed a quick-fire 38. Once he departed, Ben Hodder came in and batted majestically scoring 76 not out - which included 11 boundaries off just 55 balls. He was ably supported by Phil Eades who smashed 25 from just 8 balls to enable Swanage to amass a formidable total of 244-8 from their 40 overs.
In reply, the visitors were soon in trouble, losing 3 early wickets due to some hostile, seam bowling by Hodder & Ryan Stearn and, also, Sid Nash's leg-spin. Despite this, the hosts remained positive and at 155-5 in the 30th over remained very much in the game. However, their momentum was halted when Wells bowled their 'star' batsman (who was 1 of his 3 wickets), he was ably supported by Nilan Weeraddanana - together they claimed the final 5 wickets as the hosts were finally dismissed for 212. The momentum of the innings was maintained by Steve Kent & Ed Cross - together they added 80 runs, however, when Kent was dismissed for 51, Cross followed soon after for 39 which left Swanage with a competitive total of 213-9 off their 40 overs.In reply, the visitors were soon under pressure due to some hostile, seam bowling by Harry Long and excellent off-spin by Ron Barker. The visitors never recovered from this and continued to struggle against both Kent's leg-spin and Ross Carroll's left-arm swing bowling. Fittingly, Kent finished-off the visitors innings with his 4th wicket just after Carroll claimed his 3rd to reduce the visitors to just 144.
On Saturday the 1stXI played hosts to Weymouth in their latest Division One encounter. Although the weather tried its hardest to prevent a game, Swanage managed to play a reduced 24-over match against Weymouth. After putting the visitors in to bat, Ben Hodder and Ryan Stearn immediately put the squeeze on, taking 2 wickets in the first 2 overs. The pressure mounted as a tight over from Steve Ramsay saw a catch and a run out to peg the opposition back further. With some superb death bowling from Harry Long to pick up 2 wickets, Swanage reduced Weymouth to 106-8.
Swanage got off to a flyer with Mike Salmon scoring 16 off the first over, but lost two wickets in 2 balls in the following over. This did not stop Salmon, reaching 67 with 12 boundaries at a fast rate to all but win the match. Lewis Kirby calmed the ship and saw Swanage home with an unbeaten 28, securing a 6 wicket victory which keeps them 2nd in the division.

Swanage recovered from the loss of an early wicket with a 60-run partnership between Mike Nash & Mike Salmon at 5-runs-an over. When Nash was dismissed for 25, Salmon was joined by Craig Wells - together they added 65 runs at a run-a-ball. Salmon was eventually dismissed for a majestic 57 which included 7 boundaries. The momentum of the innings was maintained by another half-century stand between Wells & Lewis Kirby. Wells was finally dismissed for a sensational 62 in the final over shortly after 'smashing' his 10th boundary. Kirby remained unbeaten on 24 - enabling Swanage to post a formidable total of 217-4 from their 40 overs.

However, the innings was rescued by, firstly, a 30-run partnership between Geoff Willcocks and David Alcock and, then, a 40-run stand between Charlie Dyke & Jon Gregory. This enabled Swanage to reach the respectable score 113-9.

However, the game changed completely with the introduction of Swanage's spin-twins' Steve Kent and Craig Wells - together they bowled in-tandem taking 7 wickets for just 48 runs in their 15 overs, added by some sensational wicket-keeping by Phil Eades, the hosts were finally dismissed for a below-par 151.
In reply, Swanage got off to the worst possible start losing 2 wickets in the first over. Despite this, the innings was rescued by a half-century partnership between Simon Goldsack and Wells. The innings was given some respectability with a 35-run partnership between Sid Nash and Harry Long. But, when they both fell in quick-succession for 21 and 19 respectively. The hosts were shot-out for just 108.
In reply, both of Swanage's opening bowlers' Charlie Dyke and Mike Nash claimed an early wicket to give the hosts a glimmer of hope, but, the visitors cruised to their target with no further loss to record a convincing win and leave Swanage in mid-table.

The visitors middle-order 'wrestled' the momentum away from the hosts with 2 half-century partnerships. Swanage fought back with, both, some brilliant fielding and, also, a good 'all-round' team bowling effort enabling Swanage to reduce the visitors' to a below-par 221-8 from their 40 overs.

This led to the loss of 3 more quick wickets and at 94-5 in the 23rd over, Swanage were under pressure. At this point, 'star' all-rounder Steve Kent joined returning 'superstar' Tom Salmon - they embarked on a match-winning partnership of 130 at nearly 9 runs-an-over. However, at this point, the visitors 'star' batsman Stuart Sweatman was joined by Josh York - they proceeded to put-on a match-winning partnership of 160 to enable the visitors to post an imposing total of 236-5, with Sweatman finally being dismissed in the last of their 40 overs for 135.
In reply, Swanage got off to an excellent start, with a half-century opening stand between John Lewis and Mike Nash. Despite this, when Nash fell for a solid 21 - this led to a 'flurry' of wickets including Lewis for a 'fluent' 39 as Swanage 'stuttered' to 95-5. When Lewis was run out for a solid (35), Nash was joined by Craig Wells and the momentum was maintained as they put on a stand of 75 at 8 runs an over before Wells fell for an enterprising (35). Nash was then, also, ably supported by Ben Hodder who smashed a quick-fire (33). Nash batted sensationally smashing the ball to all four-corners of Days Park, however, just after hitting his 16th boundary, he was unluckily dismissed for a run-a-ball (98). This brilliant team effort enabled Swanage to post a formidable 233-7 from their 40 overs.In reply, the visitors, also, made an excellent start reaching 74-0 despite the best efforts of Charlie Dyke, Hodder, Steve Ramsay and Ryan Stearn. However, the innings changed completely with the introduction of Swanage's leg-spin 'sensation' Steve Kent - who claimed an exceptional 5-wicket haul to dismantle the visitors top-order. This helped Swanage complete a comfortable 95 run victory to move them up to 5th in the league.

The hosts got off to a flying-start and were well-placed for a mammoth score at 155-2 off just 22 overs, however, the introduction of two of Swanage's young 'stars' Sid Nash & Freddie Long, wrestled back the initiative as between them they took 3 wickets and 2 respectively to help restrict the hosts to 211 all out - their lowest total of the season.In reply, Swanage were reduced to 33-3 due to some hostile, seam bowling by the hosts. Despite this, the innings was given some respectability by a partnership between Josh Evans and Thomas Wells - another of the club's promising youngsters, who made (33) and (25) respectively, but, once they both fell in quick succession the innings fell away and Swanage were dismissed for just 112.

With 'skipper' Ben Hodder leading the way, ably supported by Steve Kent, Steve Ramsay and Ryan Stearn. However, an exceptional 7th wicket partnership enabled the hosts to post a respectable 162-7 from their 40 overs.

Despite this, the momentum changed with an enterprising half-century partnership between Mark Stacey and Craig Wells. However, when Nash was dismissed for 44 - which included 3 'huge' sixes and Dyke fell for 49 - with 7 boundaries soon after, Swans were dismissed for a below-par 184.

Stacey finally fell for (76) - which included 10 boundaries.
At his point, the momentum was maintained by Dave Goldsack who smashed a rapid (49) to enable Swanage to post a formidable 249-9 from their 40 overs. In reply, the visitors were soon under pressure from some excellent bowling by Lily Wood and Sid Nash. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat on a grassy, green looking pitch and were soon in trouble against some exceptional seam bowling by Ryan Stearn who took 3 wickets to help reduce Witchampton to 33-3. The pressure was maintained on the hosts by Swans' leg-spin sensation Steve Kent who, also, claimed 3 wickets and Mike Nash who 'bagged' a brace to reduce the hosts to a below-par total of 123.
In reply, Swans' got off to the worst possible start losing 2 wickets in the first over against some very hostile, swing bowling. The visitors never recovered from this, and despite the best efforts of Kent and John Lewis, Swanage were restricted to 52-8. Swanage were given a 'glimmer' of hope with a 9th wicket partnership of 42 by Phil Eades and Steve Ramsay. However, when the hosts 'star' bowler returned the innings was soon finished-off and Swanage fell to a very disappointing defeat.

In reply, the visitors were soon under pressure against some exceptional seam-bowling by David Goldsack and Lily Wood to reduce Witchampton to 14-2. Despite the best efforts of Swanage's spin 'twins' of Ron Barker and Sid Nash ably assisted by some brilliant wicket-keeping by Thomas Wells the visitors were in a good position to reach their target at 140-3. However, at this point, Nilan Weeraddanana was introduced and changed the complexion of the game completely. He bowled an extraordinary spell of swing bowling claiming a five-wicket haul and together with the returning Dave Goldsack who finished with 4 wickets, this helped Swans' claim an excellent, nail-biting 10 run victory.
The Thirds took the chance to continue with their policy of giving youngsters a chance with 4 U13s featuring in the game. Batting first Pete Barker (26) relished an opportunity to open the batting and after the early loss of James he put together an excellent partnership of 48 with Sam Wells (19) who made his highest adult score so far. Sadly after they both fell the Swanage batting crumbled with only Dylan Church (17) making any other significant contribution with his best score of the season. At 100 all out it was going to be an uphill task from there.
The Winton openers batted sensibly against some good Swanage bowling from Jack Grace and Dylan before James and Andrew Hancock took up the attack. Seb Wright built on his excellent debut behind the stumps making some great stops. Sadly a couple of dropped catches in the field meant Swanage were unable to get the break through and Winton reached their target for the loss of no wickets. A defeat in their final game but more experience gained for the future for Swanage's newest adult team.
The 3rds travelled to Wimborne giving both U13s keeper Seb Wright his debut as well as Molly Pavey. Swanage won the toss and batted first but got off to a terrible start with the loss of Tim Ives for a Golden Duck off the second ball of the match. There were good starts for David Haines, Gary Marsh, Tommy Battrick and Sam Wells but no one could really get on top of the bowling. Swanage regularly lost wickets to end on 117 - only Jon Gregory with 34 making a substantial contribution alongside Jack Grace at the end.
Excellent bowling by Jack Grace and Dylan Church gave Swanage some hope - they both took 2 wickets - Dylan's second an excellent caught and bowled. They were well supported by Sam Wells and Jon Gregory whilst Molly was unlucky not to take a wicket in her first over. Wimborne got to their target with 4 wickets down to finish second in the league.
The 3rds entertained Lychett and after the early loss of James Harding, Gary Marsh (19) and Tim Ives (22) pulled the innings around. After they both departed in quick succession the batting struggled against some tight Lychett bowling. Alan Marks (27 not out) and David Alcock got Swanage up to a more respectable 144.Lychett got off to a flyer with wicketkeeper Woan hitting some big shots. Wickets tumbled at the other end as Pete Barker finally got the rewards of all his excellent bowling taking 4 wickets including Woan. Swanage couldn't find another break through and despite a late run out lost out by 5 wickets.
On Monday Swanage hosted Robincroft for the 49th time - Roger Wilcox playing in every match. Charlie was the pick of the Swanage bowlers. In a close fought match Robincroft won out despite the best efforts of Phil Eades (52) and Simon Goldsack (48) to chase down the winning score.
With the 2nds cancelled against Ashmore the 3rds travelled to promotion seeking Winton. The rain stayed away for most of the time and Winton amassed over 350 against an inexperienced Swanage bowling attack. U13s Sam Wells took 2 wickets bowling a full 8 overs whilst Dylan Church took 3 catches including the catch of the match on the boundary.
In reply Swanage made sure that Winton fielded for the full 40 with Matt Dunster leading the resistance with a Boycottesque 30. It was left to David Alcock and Dylan to see out the match with Swanage a distant second but heads held high as always.
The 3rds had a fantastic game over on the Nursery Ground against Poole. Batting first the 3rds posted their best score of the season based around a century stand by Chris (55) and Tim (75). Quick runs at the end by James (22no) and Andrew (24) saw the 3rds pass 200 ending on 214 - 6.
After a direct hit run out from Matt Dunster, Alan Marks (2 -19) kept it tight early on with good support from Sam and Jack (2-37). Mark Savage went wicketless despite an excellent spell before 3 wickets from James (3-40). Alan's return saw a further wicket with a brilliant stumping from George Taylor. With Andrew and Chris on at the end the game became increasingly tight with every ball leading finally to Poole needing 2 to win off the final ball. A scrambled bye left the scores level and honours even with Poole ending on 214 - 9.
The 3s travelled to Marnhull and got off to the perfect start when Pete Barker took a wicket with the first ball of the match. Despite Mike Gould's 3 wickets Marnhull scored an impressive 254 - 6 in their 40 overs.Swanage lost regular wickets with only Tim (32) and Gary (20) reaching double figures as they ended 103 all out.
Sunday saw the final instalment of Chaz v C with a time game. After an impressive 70 from Sam Willcocks Team Chaz ended on 190 with Chris Wood taking 4 wickets.Team C were never in the chase after losing early wickets but did manage to hold out for a draw with 9 down.
The 3rds were also at home and after losing early wickets the score was bolstered by back to back 50 partnerships between Tim Ives (57) and Lily Wood (20) and then Tim and Mark Savage (22). Sadly a flurry of late wickets after shot of the day form Gary Marsh meant Swanage didn't bat their overs and were all out for 160. Freya Cutler took 5 wickets for ParleyAfter early wickets from Lily and Mark and a great spell by Ross Swanage had a sight of victory before solid batting from Parley took the game away from them - Swanage losing by 6 wickets.
Finally Game 4 of C v Chaz inter club only got half way as Team C batted first. Andy Lyons scored a second 50 of the season and there were runs at last for Matt Dunster with an excellent 39 as Team C ended on 137 with 2 wickets each from Lily and Charlie.It now all comes to the finale next week with a time game that C needs to win to square the series.
The 3rdXI were involved in a thrilling-game at Winton. Swanage made a respectable 160-7 built around a 90-run partnership between Tommy Battrick and James Harding. Battrick completed his half-century (54) and Harding made a 'fluent' (29).
In response, the hosts got off to a great start, however, they were put under pressure in the middle-overs by Harding - who claimed 3 wickets, Alan Marks, Mark Savage and Lily Wood. Despite this, the hosts secured victory by just 2 wickets in an enthralling encounter.
The 3rdXI entertained Wimborne who won the toss and batted first. Despite being damp the pitch played well as did a series of Wimborne's young batters with Rhys Williams(67) and Alfie Ingram(96) both impressing as Wimborne reached 259 - 4. Only Ed Cross was able to keep the runs down with an impressive 8 over spell for just 27 runs whilst Jacob Pope took 2 wickets.
Lots of Swanage batters made good starts but the wickets fell at regular intervals and Swanage were well behind the run rate. It was however a memorable day for Ed Cross - who made his first half-century (66) for the club and some with some excellent support from Gary Marsh (17), Sam Marks (18) and finally Tom Wollen the 3rds posted their highest score of the season of 197 - 9 losing by 62 runs.

Sadly Sunday was a complete wash out with the U8s, Women's Team and Sunday XIs all having their matches cancelled.
Also on Saturday, the 3rdXI recorded their second victory with a convincing 8 wicket win at Lytchett. The hosts were soon under pressure due to some great bowling by both Pete Barker and Sam Marks - who claimed his first 5-wicket haul for the Club to help dismiss the hosts for just 156. In reply, Swans' cruised to their target for the loss of just 2 wickets with Tim Ives making a sublime, unbeaten (71) - which included 9 boundaries in a partnership of 125 with Harry Long who ended on a well made 46 not out.
On Sunday, Swanage hosted Cerne Valley in a 40-over match.
The visitors won the toss and, unsurprisingly, elected to bat on a blisteringly hot afternoon. The visitors were soon under pressure due to some fantastic bowling by both Pete Barker and Charlie Dyke. This was maintained with some really economical bowling by Jack Battrick, Andrew Hancock and Sam Willcocks - who all claimed a wicket. Sid Nash, also, bowled well taking a 'brace' of wickets, this helped restrict the visitors to 185-8.
In reply, Swanage were, also, soon under pressure losing 3 quick wickets, despite this, Tommy Battrick batted brilliantly making 37. However, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, until the complexion of the game changed with an excellent half-century 7th wicket partnership between Mike & Sid Nash. Sid batted brilliantly making 32 - which included 2 'huge' sixes - when he departed Mike was joined by Pete Barker - who batted very sensibly making 15. When he departed, Nash was joined by Hancock and 16 were still needed to win. He defended very well, until fittingly, Nash hit the winning runs in the penultimate over with his 10th boundary to remain undefeated on 60.
A great weekend for the Swans with both the vets and the youngsters to the fore.
The 3rds batted first against a strong Winton team over on the Nursery Ground. Some strong Winton bowling kept Swanage under pressure throughout and only Chris Wood (24) and Andrew Hancock (11) made it to double figures. Three runouts didn't help the cause as Swanage were dismissed for 107.
Winton's openers showed how it should be done as they compiled an unbroken 111 partnership to win the game by 10 wickets. Pete Barker (8 overs for 14) was the pick of the bowlers whilst Andrew Hancock was brilliant once again in the field pulling off some remarkable stops.
With Sunday's match cancelled there was an opportunity for an inter club match. Stand out performances came from Sid Nash with the bat as he passed 50 for the first time for the adult teams. Battrick's, Tommy and Jack also had good games - Jack taking 3 wickets and nearly grabbling a fourth. Team C ran out winners as team Chaz never really got their innings going.
The 3rds came off second best against a strong Poole side. Fielding first Pete Barker kept things tight as well as getting an early wicket but some strong Poole hitting meant Swanage were always up against it. The wickets were shared around with Gary Marsh, James Harding Tommy Battrick all getting one and Sam Marks taking a wicket on his debut. Mike Gould bowled well taking a couple of wickets. With Poole finishing on 226 - 8 Swanage needed to bat well but sadly were not able to do so against some good Poole bowling and fielding. Only Tim Ives reached double figures with 20 as the 3rds were skittled out for 47 and an early return to Swanage.
On Sunday Swanage hosted a far too strong Wessex Pilgrims who racked up 274 - 2 in their 35 overs. With a full side plus some Surrey league players you have to wonder what was to gain for them against a Swanage side comprised mainly of youngsters!!!! Swanage batted well ending on 183 - 6 with Andy Lyons scoring 50 and Charlie Dyke just falling just short on 49.
Captain Pete Barker said it was one of the hardest Sunday games I've ever played in and went on to thank his team for their attitude and spirit in keeping going on such a hot day and against such a tough side. He also thanked the support of those watching adding he felt proud of all those players and supporters from Swanage who were there. Finally he added a heartfelt message - Up the Swans a club forever in my heart - neatly summing up the feelings we all know he has for the club.
